Career Guidance and Counselling Centres Program

After extensive research and detailed deliberations with officials from the Tribal Welfare Department (TWD), the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC), the Government of India, and other key stakeholders in the skill development ecosystem, it was recognized that sensitisation, mobilization, and awareness creation are critical to addressing prevailing challenges in skill development. These challenges include the selection of appropriate skills aligned with students’ educational background, identification of suitable training programmes and centres, access to resources and technology, participant motivation, and pathways to wage employment or self-employment post training. In this context, CIPS identified and adopted a best practice model, namely the Career Guidance and Counselling Centres Programme, implemented by the Commissionerate of Collegiate Education, Government of Telangana, in collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and COIGN Consultancy Services Pvt. Ltd. Building on this experience, CIPS implemented a similar intervention at the Integrated Tribal Development Agency (ITDA), Seethampeta, Srikakulam District, Andhra Pradesh, covering 10 Tribal Welfare schools and reaching 2,000 students from Classes VIII to X, in collaboration with COIGN Consultancy Services Pvt. Ltd.

CIPS provided handholding support to SAS during the program’s implementation in Andhra Pradesh (13 districts) and Telangana (3 districts viz. Yadadri Bhuvanagiri, Siddipet and Sanga Reddy). Around 63000 teachers from Andhra Pradesh and Telangana were trained, and there was active participation from the teachers. The program had a positive response.

After extensive screening and evaluation, the ideas that had the highest potential to affect the quality of education and could be easily replicated were shortlisted. The shortlisted ideas were then transformed into detailed case studies and published in Navachar Pustika. The first Navachar Pustika of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana were launched in March 2020.
