Application of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) in Education, Tbilisi, Georgia

TARGET GROUP: PUBLIC AND PRIVATE SCHOOLS

OBJECTIVES

·        To emphasize the use or application of GIS in Education by determining education districts, creating a school mapping, where schools can be established and help decision makers to solve problems which are related to locations/geography in education easily and quickly.

SUMMARY

To show the applicability of GIS in education facilities, where each educational unit has easy access to the common database. The system is constructed for schools in the Old Tbilisi District, in Tbilisi, Georgia, and different analyses related to education were performed.

Generally, the areas of relevance will include the capacity of schools, schools’ regional distribution, number of students, number of teachers, number of schools, Gender issues, and simple statistical calculations within and between schools/districts.
