He was promoted as Inspector General of Police in 1993 and worked as the first Director of “Andhra Pradesh Police Academy (APPA)” for 5 years (1993-1998) when the entire Academy was built from scratch and made a world-class Training Institution. He worked as Director General of Prisons from 1998 to 2000. He personally drafted the amendment to the “Code of Criminal Procedure” in 2000 to enable (give legal validity) Video Conferencing between Courts and Jails. Introduced this concept (an Innovation) for the first time in India, which is now followed in 17 States. This Amendment was adopted by the Parliament of India and made applicable to the entire country vide “The Code of Criminal Procedure (Amendment) Act, 2008”.
Mr. Krishna Rao was Director General of Fire Services (2001). For the first time in Andhra Pradesh started enforcing the “National Building Code”, and the “A.P. Fire Services Act”. He was Commissioner of Police, Hyderabad City during the years 2002 & 2003. Maintained Peace and Tranquility in a city, with 5 million population, known for communal tensions. He worked as Vice Chairman & Managing Director, of “Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation”, (a Billion Dollar Company with 1,20,000 employees, and daily earnings of Rs. 16 crores) during 2005 & 2006. As the C.E.O. of the then world’s largest Bus Corporation, handled an annual Income/Expenditure of Rs. 5,000 Crores, and brought the Corporation from Loss to Profits.
Mr. Krishna Rao worked as Additional Director General of CRPF (Government of India) during 2006 to 2008. He worked in New Delhi for 2 years (2008-2010) as the Chief (i.e. Director General of Police) of SSB (Shasastra Seema Bal), a 93,000 strong Central Armed Police Force/ Border Guarding Force guarding the Indo-Nepal & Indo-Bhutan Border.
Mr. Krishna Rao was awarded “The Indian Police Meritorious Service Medal” in 1991; and “The President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Service” in 1998.
Since retirement in October 2010 he was engaged as a speaker/resource person at various Training Institutions like IIM, Ahmedabad; National Police Academy; National Academy of Prison and Correctional Administration, Vellore; Andhra Pradesh Human Resource Development Institute, Bapatla; Administrative Training Institute of Karnataka, Mysore; Madhya Pradesh State Administrative Academy, Bhopal; ASCI (Administrative Staff College of India, Hyderabad; CIPS (Centre for Innovations in Public Systems), Hyderabad; Internal Security Academy, Mt.Abu, Rajasthan; LBSNAA, Mussoorie, Uttarakhand; A.P.
