Implementation of Life Skills and Career Guidance Programme in the State of Andhra Pradesh for Class IX, X Students

The Commissionerate of School Education, Govt. of Andhra Pradesh has come forward with a proposal to take up ‘Life Skills and Career Guidance Programme’ on a large scale for class IX and X students across the Govt. Schools in the State. Post a rigorous process of scrutiny, CIPS was shortlisted along with (2) training partners viz. Nirmaan, i-Dreams Career for implementing the project. In order to have a better understanding of the operational level implementation of the project, a team from Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan (RMSA), O/o Commissioner of School Education, Andhra Pradesh has been deputed to the CIPS office and as well as to ITDA, Seethampeta to gather the feedback on similar such intervention ‘Career Guidance and Counselling Centres Programme’ which is being implemented by CIPS with its technical partner COIGN Consultant Services Pvt. Ltd. in Srikakulam District.

The feedback from RMSA was positive and the Commissionerate came forward for the implementation of a similar programme in all the government secondary schools across Andhra Pradesh. The programme is being implemented to about 7.5 lakh government school students across 13 districts of Andhra Pradesh.

Before commencing the programme, CIPS has convened a series of brainstorming sessions with the officials from the O/o Commissioner of School Education, training partners, subject matter experts and eventually arrived at a consensus on the content that needs to be delivered to class IX and X students. CIPS was allocated (3) districts viz. East Godavari, Visakhapatnam and Srikakulam and is closely monitoring the programme for its effective implementation.

The programme is focused on training the students directly in the classroom for 10 Hours per each school. The physical target for CIPS is to cover (1425) schools and (2,11,334) students, which is a massive exercise in terms of a number of students and geographical spread of schools is over 3 districts viz., East Godavari, Visakhapatnam and Srikakulam. This is a unique project wherein the CIPS has been replicating innovations in the priority area of Education, as the purpose of education is to develop children and youth in a holistic manner.

During, field visits and interaction with Head Masters, Teachers, Parents and Students it was understood that the programme has a deep impact on developing an idea on Life Skills and awareness, a broader overview on the available career options both to the teachers and students.

Further, the CIPS is planning to replicate the programme states across the country duly improvising the programme based on the lessons learnt during its implementation process in Andhra Pradesh.
