CIPS celebrates its 7th Foundation Day this month. We are still a young institution but we dream big. This year the Chief Guest is Shri Achyuta Samanta, an inveterate innovator whose life story is an inspiration to many. The Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences started by him in 1993 with 125 tribal students has today grown into the largest free residential institute for tribal children. It aims to provide holistic education from KG to Post-Grad for 25,000 children from the economically poorest of families. Starting with his small savings, Shri Samanta set up Kalinga Institute of Information Technology in 1992 in Bhubaneshwar and as a self-imposed social responsibility set up the school for tribal children. The Institute has attracted the attention of many administrators and planners within the country and abroad, calling for replication in many areas. Shri Samanta has been propagating the model in his bid to change the lives of the poor and the hapless in different parts of the world.
Students, teachers, policy makers, innovators and NGOs have a lot to learn from him. He is a perfect role model for the younger generation. He has achieved in 25 years what governments with big budgets and huge staff strength have failed to achieve even in the last 70 years. We need thousands of Samantas in our country to make a difference. All are welcome to come and listen to Shri Samanta’s inspiring talk on 22 May, 2017 at 3 pm at ASCI Auditorium, Administrative Staff College of India, College Park Campus, Road No. 3, Banjara Hills, Hyderabad.
